5 Areas in Your Home That You Might Be Forgetting to Clean

It’s easy to clean the obvious messes, but what about the areas that are a little harder to see? The dust that’s collecting on the top of the bookcase or the dirt that’s building up in the corners of the room. These are the areas that often get forgotten, but they can be just as important to clean as the other areas of the room.

No matter how you choose to clean these hard-to-reach areas, make sure to clean them regularly. If they’re not cleaned often, they can become a breeding ground for dust mites and other pests. Here are some examples of areas you should be cleaning regularly.

1) Walls and Baseboards

To clean your walls, start by vacuuming any dust or dirt that may be on the surface. If you have a feather duster, use it to get in between the grooves of the wallpaper.

Clean your baseboards by dusting them off with a dry cloth to remove any large particles. If the baseboards are dirty or have built-up soil, you can wipe them down with a damp cloth. Be sure to wring out the cloth well, so it’s not dripping wet. If the baseboards are wet or damp, let them dry before dusting them off.

2) Door Frames

When cleaning, it’s important to take the time to look up and around to see all the areas that may need attention. Many times, we focus on what’s directly in front of us and don’t notice the dirt and dust that’s building up on top of door frames, cabinets, and other high areas. Make a habit of cleaning these areas regularly to keep your home looking clean and tidy.

To clean a light fixture or ceiling fan, you can use a disposable duster with an extendable handle to capture the dust and spider webs. If you don’t have a disposable duster, you can use a clean microfiber cloth attached to a broom or mop handle with a rubber band.

3) Indoor Plants

Indoor plants not only add beauty to your home, but they also help to improve the air quality. However, they can also be a source of dust and dirt if not properly cared for.

To clean the leaves of an indoor plant, use a clean, damp cloth. Be sure to avoid getting the water on the pot or the plant’s stem, as this can cause the plant to rot.

4) Air Filters and Vents

If your home has central air, the air filters should be cleaned at least every three months. To clean the filters, remove them from the unit and brush off the dust and dirt. If the filters are very dirty, they can be washed in warm, soapy water.

The vents in your home should also be cleaned on a regular basis. Use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment to remove the dust and dirt from the vents.

5) Cleaning Tools

If your cleaning tools are dirty, it’s possible that you’re just spreading the dirt around when you use them. Have you taken a good long look at your vacuum, mop, or scrubbing brushes lately? Make sure they are clean before and after you use them.

Cleaning your home may seem like a daunting task, but it’s really not that difficult. By following these simple tips, you can keep your home clean and organized with very little effort.
