A Guide in Disinfecting Your Home After a Cold or a Flu

Disinfecting house

Having guests over to your home and someone catches a cold or the flu can cause some serious anxiety. Getting rid of the virus and disinfecting your entire home is more than a nuisance, but with some diligence and hard work, you can eliminate the possibility of spread and keep your family safe.

Here are five recommended practices for properly disinfecting your home after the flu or a cold.

  • Clean All High-Touch Surfaces

The flu virus usually spreads through coughing, sneezing, and touching contaminated surfaces. The most effective way to catch and eliminate the virus from your home is to focus on cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs and handles, light switches, countertops, bathroom fixtures, and remote controls. Be sure to use a disinfectant product to kill any lingering germs, such as an all-purpose spray, and a cloth to wipe them down afterward.

  • Wash All Linens

Clothing, bedding, and towels can store and spread germs quickly, so it’s important to focus on laundering any linens that may have been used while the person was sick. Wash all bedding and towels with warm water and laundry detergent, and use the highest heat setting when drying. If possible, you should use a separate laundry basket to store the garments so you don’t risk cross-contamination.

  • Vacuum İntensely

Spreading germs through the air can be one of the more dangerous ways to contract and spread the flu, especially if you have poor air circulation in your house. A quick way to eliminate the virus is to vacuum and dust high-traffic areas such as carpets, upholstery, and furniture. Make sure to pay extra attention to rugs and carpets, as pet hairs and dander can hold onto microscopic germs particles. Be sure to use a good quality vacuum with a HEPA filter to capture small particles of dirt, dust, and other debris in the air.

  • Throw Away Contaminated Products

Contaminated items such as face masks and tissues should be thrown away immediately after use. You should also throw away anything that came in contact with the contaminated items, such as gloves, paper towels, and masks. All contaminated items should be discarded in a plastic bag and placed in a sealed trash can.

  • Sanitize Other Surfaces

Finally, you should clean and sanitize the entire house. This includes wiping down any other surfaces that may have come into contact with the virus, such as kitchen appliances, window ledges, and bathroom surfaces. Be sure to use a good disinfectant to kill any germs and a cloth to wipe them down.

Conclusion

By following these recommended practices, you can be sure to disinfect your home thoroughly and protect your family from becoming infected. Cleaning and sanitizing surfaces regularly can help catch and eliminate the virus quickly, ensuring your family stays healthy and safe. And if you want to be sure that all pathogens and viruses are eliminated, seek the help of professional cleaners.
