Top 8 Kitchen Areas You Most Likely Forget to Clean

kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of any home, where we prepare meals and spend much of our time. While most of us are diligent in cleaning up after ourselves, there are certain areas in the kitchen that we tend to overlook. These areas harbor bacteria and germs and can lead to unpleasant odors.

Here are the top kitchen areas you must remember to add to your deep house cleaning list.

1. The Range Hood

The range hood is an essential part of your kitchen that helps keep it clean and free of smoke and grease. However, it can become a breeding ground for bacteria and germs if not cleaned regularly. To clean your range hood, remove the filters and soak them in warm soapy water. Use a degreaser to clean the inside of the hood and wipe down the exterior with a clean cloth.

2. The Dishwasher

While your dishwasher cleans your dishes, it, too, needs cleaning. Over time, food grains and grease can build up in the dishwasher leading to unpleasant odors. To clean your dishwasher, remove the racks and wipe down the interior with a cloth. Run a cycle with vinegar or a dishwasher cleaner to remove any build-up.

3. The Oven

The oven is another area of the kitchen that can be easily overlooked. However, it is essential to clean your oven regularly to ward off any build-up of grease and food particles. To clean your oven, use an oven cleaner and follow the instructions on the label. Wipe down the interior of the oven with a clean cloth after use.

4. The Refrigerator Coils

The coils at the back of your refrigerator keep it cool. However, the fridge must work harder to keep things cool if they become clogged with dust and dirt. To clean your refrigerator coils, simply unplug the refrigerator and use a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust or debris.

5. The Sink Drain

The sink drain is another kitchen area that can rapidly become clogged with food particles and grease. To clean your sink drain, pour boiling water and a mix of baking soda and vinegar. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it with hot water.

6. The Coffee Maker

The coffee maker is another kitchen appliance we use regularly but often need to remember to clean. Over time, mineral deposits and coffee oils can accumulate in the coffee maker, affecting the taste and quality of your coffee. Fill the reservoir with equal water and white vinegar to clean your coffee maker. Run the coffee maker on a brewing cycle, then rerun it with plain water to flush out the vinegar. According to the manufacturer’s guide, you can also use a coffee maker cleaner.

7. The Microwave

The microwave is another area of the kitchen that can be easily overlooked. However, it is essential to clean your microwave regularly to prevent any build-up of food particles. To clean your microwave, place a bowl of water with a few slices of lemon inside and microwave for a few minutes. The steam will help alleviate any food particles, making them easier to wipe away.

8. The Trash Can

The trash can is another kitchen area that can quickly become dirty and smelly. To clean your trash can, simply remove the bag and wipe down the inside with a mixture of vinegar and water. You can also sprinkle baking soda inside the trash can to help absorb any unpleasant odors.

Conclusion

While the kitchen may seem simple to clean, certain areas can be easily overlooked. By deep house cleaning these areas regularly, you can help prevent bacteria and germ build-up and keep your kitchen smelling fresh and clean. The next time you clean your kitchen, include these top areas on your list.
